Museum of Science and Industry

Masterplanning

We masterplanned the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, with a brief from the Client to enhance the Visitor Experience.

MOSI occupies a site in the middle of Manchester, and has a collection of historically significant former industrial buildings as well as large outside spaces. We looked at the visitor’s experience from a number of points of view – conceptually (what is the Museum saying to us?), physically, operationally, financially and programmatically, blending all this thinking into a Masterplan that gave the Museum a road map for their way forward over the next ten years.

The Masterplan was underpinned by interviews with staff and stakeholders, careful historical research and audience evaluation, and involved detailed analysis of the existing galleries and spaces. It resulted in a clear set of recommendations, each of which was costed and wrapped into a programme of projects.
