Surreal Things Bilbao
Metaphor was invited to create this exhibition after designing the Surreal Things show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. We created a completely new design for the Guggenheim Bilbao, responding to the uniqueness of the Frank Gehry building (which worked well with Surrealism’s playful aesthetic) as well as the necessity for interpretation in three languages.
The exhibition ran from 2007 to 2008. Like the V&A show, it focused on surrealist and surrealist-influenced fashion, furniture, interiors and decorative arts. The project included the innovative Didaktika learning space for visitors and school groups, where they could develop and share their ideas about Surrealism and the displays.
The exhibition proved very popular and was seen by 575,500 visitors to the Museum, making it the most visited V&A touring exhibition ever.
